2-day convention for CA students held:

The Hyderabad Branch of SIRC of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), organised a two-day National Convention, “Utkraanthi, Evolution.The Better You” for the Students of Chartered Accountancy Course on December 29 and 30 at ShilpakalaVedika, Madhapur. Various topics were discussed. Member central council J Venkateshvarulu said that C A course is in demand around the world. There are several opportunities for chartered Accountants in banking, insurance and software companies.

He said SIRC has 129 branches all over India including 8 branches in Andhra Pradesh and 3 more branches are yet to be established in Karimnagar, Ongole and Warangal.

Anxiety over change of portfolios before Assembly Session:

In the wake of curiosity on Telangana Bill, C.M. of A.P. Mr. N. Kiran Kumar Reddy gave a surprise by changing the cabinet portfolio of Dr. Sridhar Babu. He has taken Parliamentary Affairs portfolio from Sidhar Babu and allotted it to Dr. Shailajanath. During the last Assembly Session, there was a rift between C.M. and Mr. Sridhar Babu. It is understood that to please Mr. Sridhar Babu, C.M. has given him the portfolio of Commercial Taxes which was earlier held by him. In addition to this change, C.M. is allotted the newly created portfolio of official language to Tourism Minister, Mr. V. Vasanth Kumar.

In political circles, suspicions are being expressed on the change of portfolios just before the commencement of the next Assembly Session. It may be a conspiracy to adjourn the Assembly Session without discussions. Panchayath Raj Minister, Mr. Jana Reddy has expressed surprise over the step taken by the C.M. It may be noted that the Assembly session is starting on 3rd January again to discuss Telangana Bill.

Exhibition inauguration today-C.M. not invited:

74th All India industrial Exhibition 2014 will be inaugurated today at 5 p.m. for the first time C.M. of the State has not been invited to inaugurate the exhibition. Senior most Minister from Telangana, Mr. P. Lakshmiya has been invited to inaugurate the exhibition.

Talking to newsmen yesterday, President of Exhibition Society, Mr. K. Jana Reddy told that the exhibition would continue up to 15th February. When asked did the C.M. refused to inaugurate the exhibition, he said it is not so, this time it was decided to invite the senior most minister from Telangana. He further told that there will be 2500 stalls in the exhibition. State Govt. and Central Govt. are also setting up there stalls. This time, Kamineni Hospital will provide free medical aid for the public where Cardiology, Orthopedics, Surgery, Gynecology experts will be available. He mentioned that during the exhibition security arrangements have been made. 7th January will be Ladies Day. This time, the stall of Metro Rail will attract the attention of the public, since Metro Rail Coach is being displayed for the first time. He informed that after the enhancement of ticket, Exhibition Society got rupees 10 crore income last year. Parking arrangements are being made in Govt. offices in front of exhibition ground. He told that Exhibition Society is not getting land for parking space. If the Govt. gives land, the society has a plan to construct parking space.

Pak govt, army on same page for tackling terrorists: Sharif:

December 30:

Making it clear that attacks on army and public will not be tolerated, Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif today said the government and the military were on the same page on the issue of tackling terrorists in Karachi or the restive tribal areas.

The remarks came in the backdrop of a recent limited operation launched by the army in North Waziristan.

"We will adopt coordinated strategy to root out the menace of terrorism," Sharif said while chairing a meeting in the Prime Minister's House to review anti-terror laws.

The civil administration and the military are "on the same page to tackle terrorists in Karachi, Federally Administered Tribal Areas and Provincially Administered Tribal Areas", he was quoted as saying in a statement.

There is "no space for enemy aliens to attack innocent civilians and armed forces", he said. They must be "prosecuted with effectiveness", he added.

Sharif directed officials to expedite the process of framing and promulgating anti-terror laws.

The meeting was attended by Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, army chief Gen Raheel Sharif, Chief of General Staff Lt Gen Ashfaq Nadeem, the heads of the Inter-Services Intelligence and Military Intelligence and the Interior and Law Secretaries.

Over 50 people were killed in a recent operation carried out by the army in North Waziristan Agency, a haven for the dreaded Haqqani network and al-Qaeda linked groups.

The action was launched after a suicide attack on security personnel on December 18.

Though the army claimed all the dead were terrorists, many of them foreign fighters, media reports said civilians were also killed.

North Waziristan is out of bounds for journalists and independent confirmation of the deaths was not possible.

Speculation that the army might launch a major offensive in the tribal areas has been building as the government's attempts to engage the banned Pakistani Taliban in talks have floundered in recent months.


Regime change won't affect India-Pakistan ties: Bashir:

Kolkatta, December 30:

Declining to comment on the prospect of the BJP's Narendra Modi becoming the prime minister, outgoing Pakistan High Commissioner Salman Bashir Monday said any regime change in India would not affect bilateral ties.

"We respect every leader, every political party, and it being India's internal matter, we don't have an opinion on that. The common denominator is the people of India. Therefore our reach out is to the people," Bashir told media persons here when asked to give his views about Modi, the Bharatiya Janata Party's prime ministerial candidate.

"It is not proper for me or for anybody from Pakistan to be here in India and comment either on Indian political process or any situation in any other country," he added.

With the Lok Sabha elections due in India early next year, Bashir said any change in the regime will not come in the way of the mutual ties which both the countries have been working to improve.

"I don't think that regime change really matters. The relation between states are state relations. They are not personal or party specific. It is the considered policy of Pakistan to forge friendly and cooperative relations with India."

"So your question remains relevant in terms of reciprocation and it is my sense that people of India are desirous to see better relations with Pakistan as in their own interest. That's my sense," he said.

Bashir asserted that Pakistan was a firm believer in democracy.

"In a democracy, whatever democracy delivers is something that is good and we firmly believe in that. We have had an election and democracy has delivered outstanding results in terms of stable government in Pakistan," he said.

He also rubbished allegations that Pakistan promoted terrorism and claimed: "We are at forefront in defeating terrorism."


Explosives found outside Pervez Musharraf's house:

Islamabad, December 30:

Five packets of explosives were found today near former Pakistani military ruler Gen Pervez Musharraf's farmhouse here, days after explosives were discovered on the road he was to take to a court.

According to the police, explosives were recovered from the green belt on Park Road near Chak Shahzad farmhouse.

Each packet contained around 400-500 grams of explosive material.

On December 24, explosives were recovered from 70-year-old Musharraf's route to a special court.

He was supposed to appear in the court to face treason charges for suspending, subverting and abrogating the Constitution, imposing an emergency in the country in November 2007 and detaining judges of the superior courts.

His lawyer had then said security threats had prevented Musharraf from appearing before the court.

Security personnel had found two pistols, a five-meter detonator wire as well as 16 bullets near his farmhouse when they were clearing his route to the hearing.

The Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) had arrived at the scene and diffused the bomb which was found in a briefcase. Musharraf is slated to appear before the Special Court on January 1.


Let judiciary decide Musharraf's case: Ex-servicemen:

Islamabad, December 30:

Top retired military officials on Monday rejected former Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf's claim that the whole army was upset with the government's move to put him on trial for treason, saying he should let the judiciary decide his case.

A joint statement issued by Pakistan Ex-Servicemen Society president Lt Gen Hamid Gul and Pakistan Ex-Servicemen Association president Lt Gen Ali Kuli Khan said the army had nothing to do with the declaration of emergency by Musharraf in 2007.

The ex-servicemen were of the view that the best course for Musharraf would be to follow the law and let the judiciary decide his case on merit. Musharraf is set to appear before a special court on January 1 to face treason charges for imposing emergency and subverting the Constitution.

The 70-year-old former army chief told reporters yesterday he had the backing of the military and the "whole army" was upset with the treason allegations.

Taking serious exception to Musharraf's remarks, the retired generals said he seemed to be trying to implicate the army as an abettor in alleged offences that amounted to a violation of constitutional provisions that cover treason.

Members of the two associations consider the declaration of emergency and sacking of judges as Musharraf's personal acts, the statement said. It further said Musharraf?s claim that the action of imposing emergency was taken by the cabinet made references to the army irrelevant.

Gul, a former Inter-Services Intelligence chief, is now a key leader of the Defa-e-Pakistan Council, a grouping of extremist organisations like the JuD.

During an interaction with reporters yesterday, Musharraf said, "I would say the whole army is upset. I have led the army from the front. "I have no doubt with the feedback that I received that the whole army is...Totally with me on this issue."

Musharraf is the first general to face treason charges in Pakistan's history. If convicted, he could face life imprisonment or the death penalty.


Pakistani residing on Indian side of border arrested:

Jammu, December 30:

A Pakistani who stayed on the Indian side of the international border for over two years was arrested by the Border Security Force (BSF) in Kathua district of Jammu region, police said Monday.

BSF sources said the arrest occurred late Sunday, after the Pakistani, identified as Muhammad Imran Khan of Sahiwal district, was found to have stayed in the home of a man in Hariya Chak village of Kathua district for more than two years.

He was arrested as he was attempting to return to Pakistan.

The man who offered the Pakistan national shelter has also been arrested by police on suspicion of complicity in militancy-related activities.

The arrests have occurred in the same village, Hariya Chak, where three Pakistani militants who attacked the Hira Nagar police station in Kathua district and later an army camp in Samba Sep 26 this year were first spotted.

Ten people including eight security men and two civilians were killed in the Sep 26 attack in Jammu region.

The three militants were later killed by security forces.

The arrest comes as major embarrassment for security forces.

Hariya Chak village had been thoroughly searched after Sep 26, following reports that the three militants had first been spotted in the village. The Pakistan national arrested Sunday was in the village during those searches. At that time, the local man who hosted him had not revealed his guest's nationality to police.


2 persons sentenced to death in Pakistan for blasphemy:

December 29:

Two persons were sentenced to death by a Pakistani court after it found them guilty of blasphemy, a media report today said.

Additional Sessions Judge Chaudhry Zafar Iqbal awarded death sentences to two men found guilty under the controversial blasphemy law.

According to the prosecution, Riaz Ahmed, 34, and Ijaz Ahmed, 38, residents of Haroonabad, devotees of Chaman Sarkar in Gujrat district, had claimed in 2011 that they had seen God.

Qari Muhammad Ahmed, 27, the complainant, a resident of Haroonabad, said that the convicts had also invited other people to join them in their union with God through Chaman Sarkar.

Malik Ghulam Qasim, the defence lawyer, told The Express Tribune that he would continue to fight against a law that could be easily misused to victimise innocent people.

"I tried my best to defend them," Qasim said.

"We seriously need to reconsider the blasphemy law and its enforcement," he said.

Judge Chaudhry Zafar Iqbal also slapped a fine of Rs 1 lakh on each of them.

New year celebrations: Save your children from evil acts:

With every new second, minute, hour, day, month and year, our life is getting closer to death. There is nothing wrong in spending life cheerfully however welcoming the new year by screaming like beasts and with devilish act is uncalled for. Young boys and girls scream and dance at the new year eve at some places of our city particularly at Husain Sagar, Necklace Road etc. as if they have won a million dollar lottery. By hearing their screams it looks like devil is standing somewhere in the corner and giving a pat on their back saying you have made my day as you are inviting Allah’s wrath with these activities.

From 9 pm to 1 am such shameful acts are witnessed which can’t be put in writing. Since many years burqa-clad girls are also seen at those places brazenly celebrating the new year. Several young boys are seen at hospital beds of emergency wards of Osmania hospital and Gandhi hospital in the night of 31st December every year. Thousands of rupees are charged for simple operations these days. In this situation parents should keep an eye on their children on December 31st lest they lose them forever. They should not give vehicles to them as reckless driving tantamount to inviting death. Parents should keep vigilance on the eve of new year 2014 or else the new year day could turn into the worst day of their life.


All flyovers in Hyderabad to be shut for New Year's Eve:

Hyderabad, December 31:

Police have decided to close all flyovers and some key roads around Hussain Sagar in Hyderabad from Tuesday night till the early hours of Wednesday to prevent any untoward incident during the New Year's Eve celebrations.

All flyovers in Hyderabad and Cyberabad police commissionerates will be shut while the roads around Hussain Sagar lake in the heart of Hyderabad will also be out of bounds for traffic.

The PVN Expressway, which connects the city to the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, will also be closed for vehicles.

The Outer Ring Road, which connects the townships around the city and also the airport, will remain closed for light motor vehicles and passenger vehicles from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Bonafide passengers travelling in light motor vehicles will be allowed on the Outer Ring Road subject to production of air tickets, said Cyberabad Police Commissioner C.V. Anand.

Like in the past, no traffic will be allowed on Upper Tank Bund, Necklace Road and NTR Marg around Hussain Sagar lake from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anurag Sharma also imposed the traffic restrictions on several other roads leading towards the lake, a favourite hub for the revellers.

The police will install check posts at various places to check rash and drunken driving. It appealed to revellers not to risk their lives by rash driving in the name of celebrations.

Both the commissioners have set 1 a.m. as the deadline for the New Year parties and decided to keep a close watch on the festivities to prevent any use of narcotic drugs.

The Cyberabad police asked organizers of the New Year parties to install CCTV cameras and provide minute-to-minute footage two days later.(IANS)

The weekly Minority Grievance Cell for redressal of grievances pertaining to Minority Welfare institutions was held on Monday at Hajj House. Secretary director Urdu Academy Prof. S A Shukoor monitored the meeting. Besides general manager Minority Finance Corporation Vilayat Husain, officials of Waqf Board, Hajj Committee, Christian Finance Corporation and Minority Commissionerate were present.

A large number of students and parents complained regarding delay in issue of scholarship. Officials of Minority Finance Corporation explained to them the cause behind the delay. It is said that scholarship and fee-reimbursment of the academic year 2012 have not been paid yet. Nearly 30 thousand central scholarships applications are pending.

Mir Shujat Ali Masood takes up social service after retirement:

Avoid binge drinking: Dr. Kiran Peddi:

Dr Kiran Peddi, consultant gastroenterologist, Global Hospitals, Hyderabad suggests that people should avoid binge drinking during the festival season ahead. During the festivals season, most of the people get carried away and get over indulgent.

According to him, binge drinking is defined as episodic excessive drinking. It usually means consuming an excess amount of alcohol in a short period of time. He advised people to avoid this as heavy regular binge drinking is associated with adverse effects on the liver, brain, heart, and pancreas. According to WHO guidelines, men should drink no more than 21 units of alcohol per week and they must have at least two alcohol-free days a week. Women should drink no more than 14 units of alcohol per week, no more than three units in any one day, and have at least two alcohol-free days a week.

Binge drinking is common among young generation during parties.

A large conference titled “Ettehad-e-Millat Conference” was held in Warangal on 29th December. Delegates from various states participated in the conference. A resolution was passed demanding the Govt. to representations to the Muslims according to their populations. It urged to consider various issues relating to Muslims before anti-communal rights bills is passed in Parliament. Thousands of Muslims youths are in jails without producing charge sheet in court. They should be released immediately.

Maulana Mohammed Abdullah Mugheesi, Chairman of All India Muslim Personal Law Board and Mr. Mohammed Abdur Rahim Qureshi, Asst. General Secretary of All India Muslim Personal Law Board presided over the meeting.

Maulana Kaka Sayeed Omeri, told that there was peace and tranquility in India but the imperialist forces divided India by adopting “Divide and Rule policy”. He urged the need the unity of the Muslims.

He said that Mr. Chandrababu Naidu himself involved in corruption. He will not become CM once again since people have lost confidents in him. UPA Govt. is determine to eradicate corruption through Lokpal Bill. He told that Mr. Naidu is afraid of enquires and therefore he got stay order from High Court against CBI probe. He said that he is prepared for any enquiry. He told that Chandrababu Naidu was the owner of 2 acre of lands and now he is the owner of Rs. 2000 crore. How did he accumulate these assets? He alleged that he accumulated this wealth through political gains. He did not fulfill the promise of providing 100 seats in Assembly to BC’s. Telangana JAC opposes Hyderabad as common capital:

(Siasat News) A delegation of Telangana political JAC met the President and thanked him for sending the Telangana bill to state Assembly. Later they handed over a memorandum consisting of 14 points in which it has opposed Hyderabad to be kept as common capital for 10 years. It understands that in this case Seema Andhra leaders will get chance to exploit Telangana region for another 10 years. It suggested to bifurcate Public Service Commission and High Court also. It demanded to hand over Hyderabad House which was constructed in New Delhi by the Nizam of Hyderabad. It also demanded that such decisions should be taken to do justice to Telangana employees. It reminded that in all party meeting held on 7th December 2009 all the local and national political parties had given the right to central Govt. to decide about Telangana issue. President was requested to give direction to state Assembly to approve Telangana bill.

Lok Satta party may move amendments to AP Reorganisation Bill:

December 30:

The Lok Satta Party is likely to move amendments to the draft Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Bill, which is presently under consideration of the state Legislature.

"The working committee is considering amendments, the party should move to the Bill to safeguard the interests of the three regions in the state. It is also discussing alternative solutions like carving out Rayalaseema also as a separate state and extending it special economic status provided to most backward states," a Lok Satta release said.

The working committee of the state Lok Satta party began its two-day session here today to finalise its stand on the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Bill, 2013, coming up for discussion in the Legislature on January 3.

Lok Satta Party is headed by bureaucrat-turned-politician N Jayaprakash Narayan, who is also a Member of the Legislative Assembly.


Efforts on to keep Bhadrachalam with AP after division: Min:

Union Minister for Textiles Kavuri Sambasiva Rao said here today that he has been making efforts to ensure that the Bhadrachalam division remains with the residuary state of Andhra Pradesh after a separate state of Telangana is formed.

The minister was speaking after laying the foundation stone for a community hall and inaugurating roads at Gopavaram and Velupucherla villages of the Musunur zone in Krishna district.

He said that he is a "strong" votary of united "Samaikhyandhra" and fully supported legislative members' decision to submit an affidavit to the President of India seeking a "united" state of Andhra Pradesh.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that nearly Rs 5 crore would be allotted to the Nuzvid assembly segment to construct new roads.

He also said that the Polavaram project would get national status.

7 Indians deported from Saudi for visa violation:

December 29: Seven Indian workers have been deported from Saudi Arabia for visa violation, reports said today. Some of the workers violated visa regulations intentionally, while the rest were cheated by their sponsors. They were deported after being released from the Abha detention centre in Asir province on Thursday, Arab News reported. Four of them flew home Friday morning. "Of a total of 22 Indian inmates in the Abha detention center, only seven are eligible to return home," said Indian social worker Ashraf Kutichal. Ashraf said the remaining 15 face various charges and would not be allowed to leave the country. "We are very happy going back home. We faced a lot of difficulties...It was very cold inside the deportation centre, especially at night," one of the workers said. Mohammed Shamsuddin from Andhra Pradesh said, "I was going to the labour court to show my passport which I finally received from my sponsor but without an exit stamp. I was suddenly apprehended by the security patrols who brought me to the deportation centre where I have spent 55 days." Ruksar who has been staying at the relief camp in Kandhla in Shamli district suffered labour pain on Thursday night following which she was taken to a government health centre where she gave birth to a stillborn child in the wee hours of Friday, her family claimed. Ruksar's husband, Izmanulhaq and other family members have alleged that lack of timely and adequate facilities available at the relief camp during the time of her labour pain led to the still birth. The family have been staging protest at the camp since the incident and have demanded strict action. On contacting, the health centre's superintendent Ramesh Chandra said an inquiry into the incident has been ordered. Meanwhile, 24 pregnant women have been identified in Muzaffarnagar district in Loi camp by the administration. Officials claim that the women have been asked to shift to a nearby hospital, but they have refused to move before their labour pain starts. The camp at Loi presently houses more than 2,000 riot victims of which approximately half are children. Sixteen deaths have taken place at the camp due to ailments and medical causes. The September riots in Muzaffarnagar had left over 60 people dead and rendered thousands homeless.

Kumar Vishwas challenges Modi to contest against him:

New Delhi, December 29: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Kumar Vishwas confirmed on Sunday that he will contest Lok Sabha election from Amethi and challenged Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)''s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to contest against him. Speaking at a news conference here, Vishwas took a swipe at Narendra Modi and said: “I will be going to Amethi because the people of that area want to challenge the concept of dynastic politics. The people of Amethi want me to contest from that area, which is why I am going there. " “I will also appeal to Narendra Modi that he should not speak about Rahul Gandhi for 50 minutes in his one-hour speeches.,,,,,. Exercising that factor, Vishwas can contest from wherever he wants. "Why should Kumar Vishwas contest from one place? He can contest from two and so can the people from his party. Every individual in India, whether or not associated with a political party, can contest in the elections. Why doesn''t he say that he will also contest from Darbhanga," he said. Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief, Lalu Prasad Yadav, said there is no competition for a person with the stature of Rahul Gandhi. "In front of Rahul Gandhi, people like Arvind Kejriwal and Narendra Modi are nothing. Rahul Gandhi is Rahul Gandhi. The kind of thing people like Narendra Modi did, what is that? You have given them the mileage," said Yadav. Speaking candidly on the entire issue, a leader of Janata Dal-United (JD-U), Sabir Ali, called Vishwas loud-mouthed and said he should refrain from making such statements. "This is being loud-mouthed. If you win 28 seats in Delhi, it does not mean that you will rule the entire country. In any case, Kumar Vishwas is habitual of being loud-mouthed. He crosses the limits. He even lacks the decency of talking on camera. He forgets what our culture is. In spite of being a poet and a writer, he does not know what culture and tradition is," said Ali. (ANI)

Traffic violations accelerate in Riyadh: 12,000 in 24 hours:

Believe it nor not, the Riyadh Traffic Department recently registered 12,000 violations in a span of 24 hours.
The mind-boggling number of violations has sent alarm bells ringing in the department.
Traffic cops have blamed the high rise in accidents on people who drive cars while talking on cell phones.
A report in July said that 1.4 million traffic violations, including speeding and ignoring traffic signals, were registered in the first half of this year, while 2.6 million traffic offenses were registered last year.
The Riyadh traffic police have started monitoring and penalizing motorists who are stuck to their phones while driving.
The campaign against phone users at the steering wheel is one of the measures being implemented by the traffic department.
Col. Ali Abdullah Al-Dubaikhi, Riyadh traffic director, said the campaign is in its second week. “We are strictly implementing traffic safety regulations and also trying to raise awareness among citizens and expatriates alike,” he said.
He said that 73 checkpoints have been set up on various roads and intersections in the capital. These are in addition to the more than 90 traffic patrols deployed at major intersections.

Expat pilgrims turned away at border post:

Expatriates from neighboring Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries entering into the Kingdom to perform the Umrah pilgrimage in private vehicles are being turned away by Saudi security officials at border posts.
Many Asian and Arab expatriates working in the UAE, Kuwait and Qatar come to the Kingdom to visit religious sites by car since it is more cost-efficient.
A group of expatriate pilgrims in Dubai obtained Umrah visas from the Saudi Consulate in the UAE, but were turned away by Saudi authorities at the border near Hofuf on Thursday night. 
Mohammed Rashad Ali, an Indian expatriate living in Dubai, told Arab News on Friday: “We obtained Umrah visas from the Saudi Consulate here, but were not allowed to enter Saudi territory to proceed to Makkah in our own car.” 
Ali said that he and his friends and relatives had to return to Dubai while still in “ihram” (attire worn for performing pilgrimage) and booked a Jeddah-bound flight instead. 
He said that if they had known of the change in rules, they would have planned accordingly. The tour operator whom they contacted for clarification said that he was “unaware of any such restriction.”
Haj Ministry spokesperson Ali Al-Ghamdi told Arab News that the ministry had not imposed any conditions on the mode of transport to be used by pilgrims coming from GCC countries. “We have no idea if any other ministry or agency has created any such rule,” he added.
The Passport Directorate in the Eastern Province, which shares borders with member GCC countries, however, confirmed that there were some restrictions on expatriate pilgrims arriving by road from GCC countries. 
Col. Muala Al-Otaibi, a spokesperson for the Passport Directorate in the Eastern Province, told local media that expatriate pilgrims are not allowed to enter the Kingdom in private vehicles and that the new measures stipulate that modes of transportation be approved by Umrah companies.
There were earlier reports stating that a group of “Bidoun” (Arabic for stateless persons) pilgrims from Kuwait were stopped at the Raqi checkpoint on the Saudi border and were turned away for the same reason.

Punitive steps await New Year revelers:

The Kingdom’s religious police have warned the public against celebrating the New Year’s Eve, an Arabic newspaper reported on Sunday.
The Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vices (Haia) based its warning on a religious edict issued by the Council of Senior Islamic Scholars banning such celebrations, the newspaper said.
Haia officials tour markets across the Kingdom to prevent the sale of red roses and other things used for celebrating New Year.
A Haia official said punitive measures would be taken against those who celebrate the New Year publicly.

Communal tension gripped in Madannapet last night:

Hyderabad, December 30:

Mild tension prevailed in sensitive Madannapet area of old city Sunday Night over a trivial issue.

The trouble began when some minority youths were passing through a place of worship and some local youths had a verbal dual with them, sources said. This led to attack on minority youths by mob assembled there.

Police reached the troubled area and brought the situation under control by dispersing the miscreants.

Muslim Leaders spoke with higher officials and demanded stern action against the miscreants and measures to protect the lives and properties of minorities.

Two different cases were booked against youths belong to both the communities, sources told.

Situation is stated to be calm and totally under control now.

New Saher cameras can detect hidden numbers:

The Ministry of Interior is studying locations in various cities and towns in the Kingdom that pose danger to traffic to install Saher monitoring cameras, said Maj. Gen. Abdul Rahman Al-Miqbel, director general of traffic police.
“After finalizing the locations, new cameras will be installed shortly,” he told reporters after inspecting the traffic police headquarters in Yanbu. He said the traffic police is determined to install cameras at all major intersections in the Kingdom.
He said more than 7,000 people lose their lives each year in road accidents in Saudi Arabia and another 35,000 are injured with 50 percent of them disabled for life. “This causes great loss to the nation,” he said.
Al-Miqbel said the Saher system has helped reduce road fatalities in the Kingdom and authorities are aiming to expand it to more areas.
Meanwhile, authorities have introduced advanced technology in Saher to ensure detection of traffic violation and identification of vehicle registration number and capturing the face of the driver. The new cameras are being installed at selected traffic signals in Dammam, Alkhobar and Hail. Later, such high-tech cameras will be installed in other parts of the Kingdom.
The locating plate recognition (LPR) system sensors are able to detect the actual number of registration plate even if it is tampered with or covered by paint or sticker or any other means to hide the original number. With this feature, the traffic police can effectively nab the offenders.
Besides major cities, the traffic police is installing cameras on highways to detect speed violations.
All parts of Kingdom are expected to be brought under the Saher lens by 2018.                                                                                                                                                                                  
2 persons sentenced to death in Pakistan for blasphemy:

December 29:

Two persons were sentenced to death by a Pakistani court after it found them guilty of blasphemy, a media report today said.

Additional Sessions Judge Chaudhry Zafar Iqbal awarded death sentences to two men found guilty under the controversial blasphemy law.

According to the prosecution, Riaz Ahmed, 34, and Ijaz Ahmed, 38, residents of Haroonabad, devotees of Chaman Sarkar in Gujrat district, had claimed in 2011 that they had seen God.

Qari Muhammad Ahmed, 27, the complainant, a resident of Haroonabad, said that the convicts had also invited other people to join them in their union with God through Chaman Sarkar.

Malik Ghulam Qasim, the defence lawyer, told The Express Tribune that he would continue to fight against a law that could be easily misused to victimise innocent people.

"I tried my best to defend them," Qasim said.

"We seriously need to reconsider the blasphemy law and its enforcement," he said.

Judge Chaudhry Zafar Iqbal also slapped a fine of Rs 1 lakh on each of them.


Musharraf says army still backs him in treason case:

Islamabad, December 29:

Embattled former military ruler Pervez Musharraf today said treason case against him smacks of a "vendetta" and dismissed the notion that Pakistan's powerful army has abandoned him in his legal battle.

"I have led my men at Brigadier level and as Chief. Ask the 6.5 lakh personnel," Musharraf said when asked if the army had abandoned him.

He said he had led the army as a leader and not the commander. "The real leadership is without the stars on your soldier. Remove it and then see if your men actually listen to you," Musharraf said in an interview to ARY news channel.
He said the 6.5 lakh-strong army had not abandoned him.

In a media interaction at his sprawling farmhouse here, Musharraf said that the treason charges against him has upset the army. He said the manner in which his case has been handled "smacks a little bit of vendetta."

"I would say the whole army is upset...I have no doubt with the feedback that I received that the whole army is... totally with me on this issue," Musharraf was quoted as saying by media here.

In an earlier interview to the ARY, the 70-year-old had sought "forgiveness" for any wrongs he may have committed during his nine-year rule and said he will face all cases against him and not run like a coward.

Musharraf is set to appear before a special court on January 1 on treason charges.

The special court was set up by the Nawaz Sharif government to try the former military ruler for high treason for suspending the constitution in 2007.

The former president is charged with abrogating, subverting, suspending, holding in abeyance and attempting to conspire against the 1973 Constitution by declaring emergency and overthrowing the judiciary in November 2007.

On November 17, the government decided to initiate treason proceedings against Musharraf, who came to power in 1999 by toppling a government led by Sharif and ruled till 2008 when he was forced to resign after being threatened with impeachment.

He lived in self-exile for about five years and returned to Pakistan in March to contest elections but was hauled to court in different cases, including one over the 2007 assassination for former premier Benazir Bhutto.

This is the first time in Pakistan's history that a military ruler has been put on trial for treason. If convicted, he could face life imprisonment or death penalty.

The military, which has ruled Pakistan for more than half of its 66-year history, has not commented on Musharraf's case.

Musharraf has secured bail in four major cases against him but the trial for treason poses the biggest challenge to the former army commando.


Khan's party threatens to demolish wall of Zardari's home:

Karachi, December 29:

A large contingent of security forces surrounded former Pakistan President Asif Zardari's private residence here on Saturday after Imran Khan's party said it would launch a campaign to demolish a wall outside the building.

Policemen and paramilitary troops surrounded Bilawal House, named after Zardari's son, to avert a possible clash between workers of Khan's Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf party and the Pakistan People's Party.

Hundreds of workers of the Tehrik-e-Insaf and PPP began assembling outside Bilawal House this evening. To reduce tensions, authorities opened one side of the road that had been blocked for years for security reasons.

"We have opened one side of the road for normal use and set up CCTV cameras for security purposes. There is a large contingent of police to avert any clash," police officer Aamir Farooqi said.

Khan's party announced yesterday it intended to demolish the wall outside Bilawal House, which it claimed hampered normal life and traffic.

The party said it would organise a protest near Bilawal House and demolish the high wall built when Zardari was the President.

Zardari completed his five-year term earlier this year. The PPP was routed in the general election but it is power in southern Sindh province.

PPP leader Najmi Alam warned there would be clashes if workers of Khan's party try to bring down the wall forcibly.

"The Bilawal House is the residence of our martyred leader Benazir Bhutto and we will not tolerate anyone trying to create problems or play politics with it," he said.

Tehrik-e-Insaf parliamentarian Arif Alvi claimed the wall was built illegally and the Sindh High Court had ordered its demolition. "We are just following court orders," he said.

Alvi claimed security arrangements outside Bilawal House were illegal and a source of nuisance for local residents. "This is not politics, this is about people's rights. The protests will continue tomorrow and eventually this wall will come down," he said.

Bhutto, who headed the PPP when she was assassinated in 2007, had moved to Bilawal House after her marriage to Zardari though the official residence of the Bhutto family is 70 Clifton in another part of the same area.

House blaze kills seven in Pakistan:

Islamabad, December 28:

At least seven people, including three children, were killed and several others wounded when a house caught fire in Pakistan's Rawalpindi city Saturday, media reported.

The fire erupted in a house located in Satellite Town area of Rawalpindi, the sister city of the country's capital Islamabad, after an explosion in refrigerator's compressor, Xinhua reported citing Express TV.

Seven people of a family, including a couple and their three children, burnt to death in the blaze, while two other people of the neighbouring house got injured as the fire engulfed surrounding houses too.

The injured have been shifted to hospital where their condition is said to be stable.

Police said that the incident seems to be an accident as refrigerator's compressor apparently exploded due to fluctuation of electricity or short circuit.

Police said that they would give the final report about the incident after the completion of investigation process.

Musharraf says Pak army firmly behind him against 'vendetta' treason case:

Islamabad, December 30:

Pakistan's former President General Pervez Musharraf has denounced treason charges against him as a "vendetta", saying that he had the backing of the country's powerful army.

The 70-year-old said that the whole army was upset with the treason allegations against him, Dawn News reports.

Musharraf said that the way the special tribunal was formed, which involved the prime minister and the ex-chief justice, this itself smacks a little bit of a vendetta.

The former military ruler is facing five charges against him for imposition of emergency rule in November 2007, and if found guilty he could face the death penalty or life imprisonment.

An initial hearing in the case, being heard by a special tribunal, was halted on December 24 after explosives were found along the route Musharraf was to take to court, the report added.

The case is due to resume on January 1, but Musharraf said he had not yet decided whether he would attend the hearing. (ANI)

Major fire in Hyderabad timber depot:

Hyderabad, December 30:

A major fire broke out in a timber depot here and spread to an adjacent residential building in the early hours of Monday. There were no casualties, police said.

The fire completely destroyed the timber depot and sent panic among people in the surrounding neighbourhood in Musheerabad.

Fire fighting personnel battled for over six hours to douse the flames. Four fire engines were pressed into service after locals saw smoke emanating from the depot around 3.30 a.m. and alerted the fire department.

The huge flames spread to a residential apartment abutting the depot. However, the inmates had already vacated the flats following a warning by the police and fire officials. A few other buildings were also vacated as a precautionary measure.

Police suspect short circuit led to the fire. Residents alleged that authorities did not take action on their complaints about the timber depot continuing its activity in a residential area.

Cong in AP & Centre plunged country into corruption: Naidu:

December 29:

Attacking Congress, Telugu Desam Party Chief N Chandrababu Naidu alleged that the party ruling in Andhra Pradesh and at the Centre had plunged the country into total corruption.

Addressing a public meeting here, Naidu urged the people to defeat "corrupt" Congress that was allegedly involved in several scams in the coming Lok Sabha polls.

He said when his party was in power, a 'Vision 2020' plan was prepared for the benefit of public. However the Congress after coming to power prepared 'Vision 420' for their benefit, he alleged.

Naidu also commended Aam Aadmi Party and its chief Arvind Kejriwal for routing Congress in the recently held Delhi Assembly elections.

Earlier in the forenoon, Naidu offered prayers at the Lord Venkateswara temple at Tirumala here.

He further said that he will provide free IAS, Civil Service and Group I coaching to Muslim minority students through Minority Welfare Department.

Urging students to attain education he gave the example of APJ Abdul Kalam who belonged to poor family, attained education and later became president of India.

Dr. Hasanuddin Ahmed IAS (retd.) during his presidential address advised the students to work hard and avail the schemes provided by the government.

Birth anniversary celebration of Dr. Louis Braille:

Hyderabad, December 30: General Secretary, Louis Braille Association for the Blind, L B Nagar, Hyderabad, in a press note stated that the 205th birth anniversary celebration of Dr. Louis Braille will be held on January 11 at 10 am. Nearly 500 blind graduates will attend the function. A plan is to launch a coaching centre in the near future for the blind candidates who want to appear in competitive exams to obtain employment. Siasat news Twenty bodies identified in Andhra Pradesh train tragedy: December 29: A day after 26 people were charred to death in a devastating fire in a train near Puttaparthy in Andhra Pradesh, as many as 20 bodies were identified and eight of them have been handed over to relatives. "The bodies of 20 people, who were charred to death in a devastating fire in Bangalore-Nanded Express train, have been identified. Of the 20 bodies identified, eight have been handed over to relatives," Railways Commercial Manager Ramesh told PTI here. The unidentified bodies have been sent for DNA test, Ramesh said. "These tests take a minimum of 48 hours or more, depending upon doctors. We request the families of the deceased to come forward for identifying the bodies charred in the train mishap," he said. The bodies were brought to government-run Victoria Hospital here yesterday evening. Railway Minister Mallikarjun Kharge had announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh to the next of kin of the deceased, Rs 1 lakh for grievous injuries and Rs 50,000 for simple injuries. This was the second train mishap in Anantapur district after last year's train tragedy in March in which 25 passengers were killed near Penukonda when the Bangalore-bound Hampi Express rammed into a stationary goods train after the driver apparently overshot the signal near the station. A devastating fire had ripped through an AC coach of the Bangalore-Nanded Express train, charring to death 26 people, including two children, in sleep and leaving 13 others injured yesterday near Puttaparthy.

Kejriwal seeks 10 days to resolve problems of people in Delhi:

New Delhi, December 29:

Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday sought ten days time to formulate a system to address grievances and problems of the people in Delhi.

He said that he would accept the applications of the people visiting him only after a system is in place.

"I don't want to give you false assurances. I will take the application when we put a system in place to resolve the problems," he said.

He assured the visitors, who gathered in large numbers at his residence, that he needed the support of the people to establish such a system and without their backing, he would not be able resolve issues.

"We have just assumed power. It will take us sometime, seven to ten days to put a system in place to resolve your problems," he said, addressing a gathering which included DTC employees and people from the Valmiki community.

Contractual employees of DTC and muncipal corporations had come to put forward their demand to end the contract system in these bodies. They also wanted that those working for several years should be made permanent.

SP leader Farooqui to join AAP?:

Samajwadi Party leader Kamal Farooqui Sunday met Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and expressed a desire to join the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), party sources said.

Farooqui, a former Samajwadi Party national secretary, met Kejriwal at his residence here for an hour.

AAP sources quoted Kejriwal as telling Farooqui that he will discuss the matter with his party colleagues and take a decision.

Emerging from the meeting, Farooqui said: "There is a pro-AAP wave in the country. I had a long chat with Kejriwal but he is not well."

Asked if he wanted to join the AAP, Farooqui replied: "The whole country wants to join the AAP. I am sure you also want to join the AAP."

AAP leader Sanjay Singh told IANS that Kejriwal had told Farooqui that the party "will first make sure that Farooqui doesn't have any criminal or corruption charges against him".

Sanjay Singh, however, quickly added that Farooqui was a leader of high calibre and his presence in the AAP would definitely help the party.

"But it is very important to make sure that he does not have any criminal or corruption charges against him," he said.

Lalu Prasad accuses BJP, RSS and Modi of trying to divide the country:

Rashtriya Janata Dal ( RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav on Sunday visited the Muzaffarnagar riot victims camps and said the communal forces are trying to divide the country on religious lines and have targetted the Uttar Pradesh.

Lalu who is on a surprise visit to the relief camps, said, "I got news about the riots in Muzaffarnagar through T.V. The whole country's attention was on Muzaffarnagar. We all, secular people, are making an effort to stop the communal forces from dividing this country on religious lines.

Apparently referring to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, Lalu said, "The man, who belongs to Hindi speaking state and possesses a desire to sit on the crown of Hastinapur, has targetted the Uttar Pradesh, India's largest state, where the government is an also secular one."

" Narendra Modi , BJP and Sangh Parivar are all dividing this country. Modi's general manager Amit Shah was here and instigated these riots. These people are trying to communalise the whole country and the society," he added.

"Earlier all the people from Muslim and Hindu communities used to work here in peace. Then these riots took place. I am not blaming anyone but I think there was lack of response from the government. They should help the people who have suffered in these riots," he said.

"In our Parivartan Rally in Bihar, we told people clearly that the people of this country have to decide, whether they want the country to be united or to be divided after the 2014 general elections," he added. (ANI)

Govt. website publishes advert for prostitute's job:

London, December 29:

A Government website has published an advertisement for a prostitute's job. The Department of Works and Pensions allowed the owner of the Horny Escorts agency to place the ad, which offers work on a "flexitime" basis with the only qualification needed listed as "must like sex", the Mirror reported.

The ad, offering 10 pounds an hour for a single girl willing to work as a hooker, was put up by the agency on the Universal Jobmatch area of the Direct Gov site. (ANI)

FIR Against Ajaz Khan For Calling Modi Chor:

New Delhi, December 29:

After Armaan Kohli, another contestant of the show has landed in legal trouble. A police complaint has been filed against Ajaz Khan for reportedly calling BJP's prime ministerial Narendra Modi a chor ( thief) .

Trouble arose after a video which was posted on YouTube went viral on other social networking sites showing contestant Ajaz calling Modi a chor. While the video was recorded at least two weeks ago, the channel decided to cut out what Khan had said and didn't broadcast it. However, a small clip, where Khan is seen talking about Modi, has curiously landed on YouTube.

A group of BJP supporters staged a protest outside the sets of the show in Lonavala and tried to barge into the house. Later, they filed a complaint against the actor in Samata Nagar Police Station, and it has now been transferred to the Lonavala Police Station.
