Heavy rains lash Madinah

Heavy rains poured over Madinah for several hours on Tuesday, causing major roads, such as the city’s second ring road, to be closed to traffic.
Traffic also came to a standstill on many other roads, which were sealed off due to rising floodwaters.
The poor drainage systems in most neighborhoods could not cope with the amount of rain that fell over the city, where rising water levels damaged several cars.
A 40-year-old Saudi man was killed in torrential rains that hit the Kholas valley north of Al-Ula on Monday evening and lasted until Tuesday morning.
Another man was rescued from drowning in the valley.
Madinah’s Civil Defense received dozens of distress calls from stranded residents who could not move their vehicles in the floods. Most of the calls were for assistance for people trapped in their cars or to report electrical short circuits.
Parents were anxious for the safe return of their children from schools.
Power supplies in most towns were disrupted because of the rain.
The thunderstorm began in Yanbu at 6 p.m. and lasted an hour. Khayber and Al-Ais also experienced rainfall.
The met office had issued warnings about medium to heavy rains on the day. Other cities, such as Yanbu and Hanakiyah, also experienced heavy rainfall.
